MoD event expenditure revealed

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) spends around £400,000 a year on events.

Event Magazine uncovered the MoD's expenditure through documents obtained using the Freedom of Information Act.

The largest event that the MOD has organised since 2004 is the 60th Anniversary of WW2, which was a week-long series of events and cost £4.2m.

Since then the organisation was restructured and now the Ceremonial Events and Commemoration Team (CECT) has "scoped, planned and delivered major Ministerial directed events". Recently the CECT has assumed responsibility for Armed Forces Day (AFD) which includes one national event.

Since 2004 the MoD has used a range of agencies and venues for its events, including Unusual, Jack Morton Worldwide, The National Memorial Arboretum, St Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey, and Pretzel films.

The top position within CECT is Wing Commander, and commands a salary of £64,387.
